The Neighborhood Changed: A Collaboration

Ashley Minner and Sean Scheidt recently collaborated on a photo essay for the second print edition of Bmore Art: A Journal of Art + Ideas, themed "Money." Their essay, entitled The Neighborhood Changed: A Collaboration, features short stories told by a wide cross-section of East Baltimore's residents in an attempt to form a larger story of gentrification that has taken in the neighborhoods over the years.

First The Pain

Please take time to see First The Pain II at Area 405.

First The Pain II is an exhibition of the New Day Campaign, a 2015 initiative spearheaded by friend Peter Bruun, using art to challenge stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and addiction, making the world a more healing place.

"First the Pain II features a new and immersive video and sound installation by Phylicia Ghee and new and existing works representing the theme through drawing, painting, print making, and photography by artists Jenna Kahn, Michelle Labonte, Ashley Minner, Nicolette Norman, Lydia Pettit, Alyse Ruriani, Emma Jo Shatto and Laura Weiner.

What pain looks like when one is suffering with mental illness or addiction, or affected by a loved one’s hurting, and what flows from that pain. How might we find a place of compassion to become part of the solution rather than contributing to the suffering."

My contribution to this show is my Love After Love series, 2013.

Gallery hours are listed on the Area 405 website and are also by appointment. Contact info@area405.com.

Exhibition runs November 14th - December 20th 2015.

New Directions in Leadership

Tuesday, September 29 | 9:00 – 10:15 a.m.

The arts and culture field is shifting to a new generation of leaders, who see the world and their work in new ways. This session will offer opportunities for authentic conversations among leaders – current and future – who are working on building sustainable organizations. For some, that’s about mentoring and leadership transition. For others, it’s about building greater cultural equity and ensuring inclusion. This is a discussion about the challenges and solutions the field is facing as young leaders start to come to the fore.
