My name is Addie Gayoso and I program professional development for pre-k–12 teachers at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.
We offer a summer series of teacher professional development institutes connected to our Art, Books, and Creativity Curriculum (https://artbookscreativity.org/). This curriculum draws correlations between the creative processes of artists and writers through lessons on creating artists’ books.
Each summer we offer our 5-day ABC Institute to introduce teachers to the curriculum, bookmaking, and the museum’s collection. We will be offering this program July 6–10, 2020.
Every other summer, including this summer, we offer a 3-day intensive for ABC alumni. Each intensive focuses on a specific theme and is designed to provide attendees with “workshopping” time to write, make, look at, and discuss art. July 20–22, 2020, we are offering a program called “Size Matters!” so participants can learn about the importance of scale in art and create their own artist books in three different sizes: small, medium, and large.
We are currently reaching out to book artists and writers to develop our instructor team for the July 20–22, 2020, program. I was introduced to and got super excited about your art and social justice work as I was reading a MD NAEA blog. Apologies for the “cold call” email. I’m reaching out to you to see if you might be available in July and interested in teaching during our program this summer. Here is the URL of the program description: https://nmwa.org/events/art-books-and-creativity-intensive-size-matters
If you would like to discuss this opportunity, please email me at agayoso@nmwa.org at your earliest convenience. Thank you for considering!
